Victoria County Forest Emily Track
I visited this trail on the same day in May as Windy Ridge. This trail is a great place for a hike on a nice summer’s day due to the overhead forests. It shades you from the hot sun, but still lets in enough sunshine to make this trail beautiful. I am not sure what the bugs will be like in a couple of weeks. It may be un-walkable from May to early June. Best to visit early spring or after bug season middle to late June.
Along this trail are tons of wild flowers including white and red trilliums and Dog Tooth violets. They were not all in full bloom as of yet, but I plan on returning in about a week or so to take more pictures. I have never seen a red trillium before, so this was quite a highlight for me on this trail.
As you walk this trail, you come upon a stream which is quite nice to view. I did not see any fish, turtles, frogs or snakes here, but it still could be too early. Then as you walk a bit more, there are a couple of different trails to take. The one I took had a set of stairs to which brought you up to yet more trails. I continued on for about a half hour or so, which I still could have gone on for at least another hour I’m sure. But, I had to make my way back to my vehicle due to the time.
Upon going back, my son’s little 5 year old friend came upon a garter snake. It startled her to say the least but I explained to both her and my son that the snake was more afraid of us than we were of him. I tried to catch it to give the kids a closer look but it quickly slithered under a near by log and down a hole.
All in all, this trail is a great place to go and just walk, enjoy the views and relax. Unfortunately, there are no washroom facilities here, so make sure you go before venturing in.
