Yesterday was a bright sunny Sunday so we decided to get out of the house and take in a maple sugar festival at the Purple Woods Conservation Area between Oshawa and Port Perry. After that we decided to take a look at the Durham forest located just south of Uxbridge. This area is huge much like the Ganaraska forest and we need to visit more in the summer.

I finally made it back down to the Rouge river valley and I was totally blown away on a record breaking day in January were the temperature was in the low teens. Yesterday I took the kids and the dog on a trip around Scugog lake and onto the Scugog Island to several geocaches. We visited 4 in all. I wanted to visit at least 3 more on the west side of the lake but during the 3rd geocach on Scugog Island Zoi our dog decided to roll in a dead fish. Yesterday I took my kids on a hike through the Ganaraska Forest. Wow what great hiking spot. It's also a snowmobile's and ATV'ers paradise with trails criss crossing everywhere. There were also all kinds of people horse back riding on the trails. It was amazing to see so many people using the trails for so many different activities. The trails are also used for cross country skiing in the winter.

Well we finally made it home from a great trip to the Bruce Peninsula and Sauble Beach area. Our site at Sauble Falls Provincial Park turned out to be better than I expected. I managed to visit 3 conservation areas. Pottawatomi, Bruce's Caves and Ingles Falls. Didn't get to Indian River Conservation area, but the 3 we did visit, were amazing. I have not posted here in quite a while but big additions to Ontario-Hiking.com are on the way. Our trip to Sauble beach begins tomorrow and if all goes well, I plan on visiting 2 conservation areas near Owen Sound. Pottawatomi and Indian Falls. My sister Denise has also sent me some very good pictures and information on the Elora Quarry and walter bean trail. Stay tuned for updates.

Today we went to Port Perry to find the purple martin geocache and the princess ashra travel bug. We found it with no trouble at all then travelled farther south to Enniskillen Conservation area. Enniskillen is just north of Oshawa. It's a very nice spot with the headwaters of Bowmanville creek running through it.

Went to Dunsford nature trail today to find the rail trail geocache. Did not even know this trail existed and I have lived in the area all my life. Really neat spot. We found the geocache and traded 2 items.

I visited Long Sault Conservation Area today. What a nice spot. For the geocacher there are 3 caches here and one is a multi cache. We searched for 2 of them but only found 1. We did not have time to search for the third.

Well our trip to Algonquin Park turned out to be a huge success this year. And I even caught a nice sized lake trout. Only took 4 years. That was Friday. Saturday we went for a wonderful canoe trip. It started out in snow, sleet and rain mix, but by lunch it had warmed up and the clouds broke up. On Sunday we hiked the Track and Tower loop which is 7.7 km. What a hike that was. Well worth the

My next trip was supposed to be May 5th to Algonquin Park, but I went to two locations today which were Windy Ridge Conservation Area and the Victoria County Forest Emily Tract. Algonquin Park here I come!

After Just 1 week I have managed to visit 3 different hiking destinations and added 2 provincial parks that I visited last year. This web site will continue each and every time I make a trip.
