Inglis Falls Conservation Area
TRAIL MAP
Inglis Fall's Conservation Area has enough trails and activities to keep you busy all day. There are over 7 KM of trails not including the Bruce Trail which also goes through the area.
The falls are not the tallest in the area but they make up for it in beauty. One of the nicest water falls I have ever seen.
One of three waterfalls that surround the City of Owen Sound, Inglis Falls is the best known and most visited. Situated in the heart of the 200-hectare Inglis Falls Conservation Area, Inglis Falls is an 18 metre high cascade, created by the Sydenham River meeting the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The erosive power of the water has carved a deep gorge at the base of the falls. On a clear day you can see down the valley into the City of Owen Sound and out to the Owen Sound harbour.
We took a short trail which led to the bottom of the gorge were you could get a beautiful view of the Falls and Sydenham River. The trail led us to this really cool hole in the rocks pictured here to the right.
In 1843 Inglis Falls was the location of a grist mill which was later purchased and operated by Peter Inglis a young Scotsman who settled in the area. The mill still stands today and is used for an information and interpretative building. We watched a short movie about the future plans of the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority
