Millbrook Valley Trails
Trail Map
The Millbrook Valley Trails have a bit of something for everyone. For the History buff there is the old Needlers Mill near the main parking area. The geese were wandering around below the falls with their baby goslings, There is a sheltered picnic area 4 short hiking trails and even stocked brook trout ponds.
We started out at the Meds Mountain trail accesses from the main parking lot right in the middle of town off of highway 10. this is a beautiful spot for a picnic. We hiked the Meds Mountain trail in search of the Meds Mountain geocache that was located at the top of the hill. The trail winds through a hardwood forest and is completely covered by a beautiful canopy of leaves.
Next we got back into the car and traveled south on highway 10 to the 4th line were the Millbrook fishing and natural area parking lot is located. It is here that the trout ponds are located and on this day the fishermen and women seemed to be having very good success. From here we hiked the cedar trail which leads to the old railway bed or the grand trunk path.
On the way back out we hiked the Baxter creek trail. At the start of the trail we noticed a fishermen with waders and a vest searching for brook trout. The Baxter creek is a cold water stream with its headwaters in the nearby Oak Ridges Moraine. Baxter Creek provides a habitat for Brook and Brown Trout, herons, kingfishers, and mayflies. The Otonabee Conservation is working on stream bank restoration and fish habitat enhancement.
